God Is Coming, Darvin Byrd and the Byrd Family
On successive Sabbaths during the month of August, the ministry building of Dr. and Mrs. Carlton P. Byrd – newly elected President and Offset Lady of the Southwest Region Briefing – was celebrated and affirmed in dissimilar ways.
On August 14, the Oakwood University SDA Church bade farewell to the Byrds afterwards 9 and a one-half years of ministry building as the Senior Pastor of that church building. During that time, the Lord blessed the Byrds and the Oakwood University Church building in a singular fashion. Over 800 souls and nearly 1.five meg dollars in tithe were added to the church. The nearly 45-twelvemonth-old sanctuary was renovated along with its restrooms.
Then – ii long-term goals of the Oakwood University church building were reached by the grace of God during Dr. Byrd'due south tenure-goals that were considered for a long time to exist mutually incompatible; "either-or" goals. They were the edifice of a One thousand-12 academy campus and a Family Life Eye.
On top of all of that Dr. and Mrs. Byrd "added" to the church in a way that no pastor of that church had washed in recent memory-the birth of their girl, Carissa, occurred during their tenure in that location.
Giving remarks of appreciation and affirmation during the adieu service were Huntsville Mayor, Tommie Battle; Oakwood University President, Dr. Leslie N. Pollard; Due south Central Conference President, Elder Benjamin Jones, Jr.; S Central Executive Secretarial assistant and former Oakwood University Church building Pastor, Dr. John S. Nixon (accompanying them was South Fundamental Treasurer, Mrs. Sonja Grand. Crayton); and Function for Regional Ministries Executive Director and former Southward Cardinal President, Elder Dana C. Edmond.
Accompanying Dr. Byrd to Oakwood for his farewell were the ii members of his new Southwest Region Administrative squad, with their spouses-newly elected Briefing Secretary and old Oakwood Academy Church Pastor, Elder Jason North and Conference Treasurer, Philip Palmer.
The Oakwood University pastoral staff, led by Acting Lead Pastor, Dr. Toussaint Williams, and Pastor Paul Goodrich, who headed up the Farewell Committee, gave remarks and presentations, every bit did the spouses of the staff.
Music was given by the Oakwood University Church Praise Team, the award-winning Oakwood University Aeolians and three-time Grammy Honour-winning vocaliser, Donnie McClurkin.
Dr. Byrd's good day service included the dedication of several babies and fittingly, a baptism that included his girl, Carissa. Subsequently an inspiring and poignant bye sermon, the Byrd family unit was honored in a farewell dinner that was held in the Family unit Life Center.
The next Sabbath, August 21, Dr. Byrd and his family were welcomed to Southwest Region past the Houston-area pastors at the Houston Fondren SDA Church building. Xc-three-yr-quondam Mrs. Claudia Lewis of the Houston Berean SDA Church launched the remarks of welcome and affidavit past referencing letters and resolutions from the Mayors of Houston and Dallas and various other government officials. She closed by reminding the congregants that, "if they wanted to be as fine equally me at 93-beloved the Lord."
While no ane could quite meridian Sister Lewis, she was joined in remarks past Pastor Kessle Hodgson, pastor of Maranatha Spanish and New Caney Castilian SDA Churches; Southwestern Matrimony President, Elderberry Carlos Craig; and Regional Conference Retirement Plan Executive Manager, Dr. William T. Cox, who also prayed the dedicatory prayer for the Byrd family. Elder W.S. Lee, Family Life Director of Southwest Region Briefing, similarly prayed for Elderberry and Mrs. N.
As well giving remarks of welcome was a special guest-United States Representative Sheila Jackson Lee of the 18thCongressional District of Texas. Representative Lee is a Seventh-solar day Adventist and a constituent of Southwest Region. She presented Dr. Byrd with a Usa flag that was flown over the U.s.a. Capitol in his laurels.
The following leaders gave remarks via recording: Dr. Leslie Northward. Pollard, president of Oakwood Academy; Elder Benjamin Jones, president of the S Key Conference; and Elder Furman F. Fordham II, Church Ministries and Mission Director for South Primal Conference.
Office for Regional Conference Ministries Executive Manager, Elderberry Dana C. Edmond had the unique privilege of being asked by both Oakwood University Associate Pastor, Elderberry Paul Goodrich and Houston Berean Pastor, Elder Robert Norwood, to participate in both the farewell of the Byrds in Huntsville and their welcome in Houston. He introduced the new President and First Lady at the Fondren service. He was followed by Southwestern Union President, Elder Carlos Craig, who introduced Executive Secretary Jason North and Mrs. North.
Musical guests included the Fondren Praise Squad, Blithesome Expressions, Lifted, Charlmelyn Himno, and Dhyana Johnson. The Oakwood Aeolians sang via recording.
Afterward all of the welcomes, appreciations, affirmations and music, there came the most important moment of all: the preaching of the Word of God. Dr. Byrd preached a powerful bulletin, "It's Angling Time". He reminded the listening congregations that the mission of the church was the spreading of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Afterwards the service there was a welcome dinner for the Byrds. Kudos to all affiliated with these outstanding and affirming endeavors and blessings on the Byrds as they presume their new responsibilities in these unprecedented and final days.
